I Miss America

Writer's picture: Leigh GerstenbergerLeigh Gerstenberger

Every so often I stumble upon a song with a haunting melody and lyrics.  This occurred recently while channel surfing when I came across the Grand Ole Opry’s Circle TV and was captivated by three sisters performing the ballad, I Miss America by Colton James.

The sisters, Eleanor, Lily and Powell Balkcom make up a group known as The Castellows.  Eleanor and Powell are two of triplets, and Lily is their younger sister.  Born in Georgetown, GA, the sisters moved to Nashville in 2023 and signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville.  The name of the group, The Castellows pays homage to their grandmother’s maiden name.

The song written by Colton James and Rick Dawson harkens back to a simpler time in our country when, as James says, “… families made memories and gathered around Grandma’s table for Sunday lunch”.

The link to the music video below of The Castellows performing the song includes the lyrics which I hope you’ll enjoy along with the personal reflections it may bring to your mind.
